How to Clean Makeup Brushes

by daniella September 02, 2012 12:30

Make-up brushes are the most important asset of makeup professionals. Women who wear make-up every day should take note, as having a flawless face starts with having the perfect professional brush to apply your make-up with.

Cleaning your brushes regularly will double the life of them by removing all dust, bacteria and oils that accumulate on the makeup brush after consistent use. This type of build up can damage skin, especially for those women with sensitive skin. Cleaning your brushes regularly will also help to retain its softness and effectiveness.

There are different types of brushes used in applying makeups to different parts of the face. Here are the minimum guidelines that must be followed to keep your makeup brushes in shape:

  • Foundation Brushes – once a week (For users who have acne or are experiencing unusual breakouts, clean foundation brushes after every use.
  • Blush Brushes – once a week
  • Eyeliner Brushes – every 2-3 days
  • Eye shadow Brushes - every 2-3 days
  • Brushes used for finishing powders and bronzers - once a week

When cleaning make-up brushes, here are a few tips to follow.

  • First, wet the brush with lukewarm water with hairs pointing downwards so that the water will not get into the metal parts of the brush.

  • Use mild shampoo, liquid hand soap or baby shampoo. Put small amounts of the shampoo or liquid soap in your hands and apply it to the hairs of the brush, away from the metal pieces.  Squeeze gently. Add water slowly. Do this repeatedly until the shampoo is completely washed out.  Remember to keep the brush pointing downwards while washing.

  • After the brushes have been washed, let them dry in a dry with a clean paper towel underneath to soak up moisture.  When the makeup brushes are completely dry, place upright in the brush holder.  Keep in mind that putting the wet brush in the brush holders will damage the bristles.

  • Make sure to let the brushes dry completely before using them again. Drying time will depend on the size and the brushes density.  With this in mind, make sure to have extra make up brushes on hand so you will never be left without a makeup brush at those all important moments when you need to look your best.

Remember to follow the Rule of makeup brush maintenance and your brushes will be there to help you look your best:   “Take care of your brushes, and they will take care of you.”

3 Must-Know Tips for Flawless Lipstick Application

by daniella August 18, 2012 04:35

Women have been applying lipstick since ancient Egyptian times! But, how often do we get it right? With various tools, shades and techniques out there, it can be a challenge to get the perfect colored lips. Below are Fluhme’s 3 tips on how to effortlessly create beautiful, full, eye-catching lips.

  1. Decide what shade works best: Determine what make-up look you are going for (daytime or glam) and chose a lipstick to work with that style. Brown, neutral undertones look great for a daytime look (check out Fluhme’s Long Lasting Lipstick in Hope). For a look that pops, pink-based colors are the perfect choice. (check out Fluhme’s Long Lasting Lipstick in Tiffany). Make sure to choose a long-lasting, richly pigmented color so that you do not have to reapply throughout the day.
  2. Don’t skimp on the lip liner: For pouty, luscious lips, liner is a must. Liner helps define your lips before you apply the lipstick. The liner ought to be one shade darker than your lip color to highlight your lips, unless you are choosing a natural look. (When doing a natural look, you will want something that is as close to the color of your skin and lips as possible.) Delicately outline your lips with the colored or natural lip liner, being careful to make it smooth and even.  Apply a little bit of this on your lips sporadically to offer your lipstick something to stick to. A lip liner that is fortified with antioxidant and vitamin E like Fluhme’s Colorblast Lip Liner can nourish your lips for an even more beautiful look.
  3. Apply and smudge: Once you have the outline to follow, start applying the lipstick. You might wish to utilize your finger or a lipstick brush to get even more control, especially with darker or brighter colors. Start with your bottom lip and smudge the shade in. Do the same with your upper lip. If there is not enough color on the top, do the base once more and repeat. Polish your look by adding some shimmery lip gloss, try Fluhme’s Lip Lust Lip Gloss for a water-resistant shine.

Below are even more corrective tips to use with your specific lip shape:

If you have full lips: Use a lip liner to draw inside your natural lip line to make it appear thinner.

If you have thin lips: Use a lip liner and go outside a little bit of your natural lip line, to make your lips appear fuller.

If the corners of your lips droop:  Use your lip liner to build up the corners of the upper lip slightly.

Bow Lips:  To soften the peaks of the top lip, make use of a lip liner to draw a softer curve.

Have fun practicing! In fact, have someone from our team help you! You could host a party and get free make up! To find out more, contact us at http://fluhme.com/Hosting/Default.aspx

3 Simple Tips To Look Beautiful On the Beach

by daniella June 07, 2012 09:16

We know you don’t want to hit the beach with a full face of make-up! Heavy foundations will melt away within hours and the blotchy, panda eyed look is far from glamorous. But don’t worry, we aren’t suggesting that you head out bare-faced! Your beach makeup will be light and sheer-- a sunnier, toned down version of the look you usually rock.

Here are some simple tips for getting the beach goddess look:

Protection First: Protecting your skin from the sun's harmful rays should be your number one priority when you are planning a day at the beach. A tinted moisturizer like Fluhme's Mineral Sheer Tint is perfect. It has an SPF of 20, is lightweight and adds just enough color so that you have coverage, but nothing looks "caked on".

Stick to Light, Summery Colors: Beach season is when many women switch their usual blushes for bronzers. A good bronzer can help you create a natural sun-kissed look. However, ladies go wrong when they choose a copper-colored, shimmery bronzer that tends to look unnatural in harsh sunlight. Choose a subtle bronzer like Fluhme's Sole and use sparingly on your cheeks, forehead and nose.

Choose a Water Resistant Lipcolor: A light lip gloss with a subtle hint of color is a beach must-have. Just don’t pick a gloss that smudges on your face and disappears from your lips as soon as you take your first dip in the water. A water-resistant gloss from the Fluhme Lip Lust lip gloss line provides gorgeous color and even coverage.

Top Tips for the Perfect Wedding Night Makeup Look – Even If You’re Not the Bride

by daniella April 19, 2012 04:36

“Wedding season” is here and your girlfriend’s are gearing up the biggest night of their life. As a guest, the search is on for the perfect cocktail dress, shoes that are comfortable to dance in all night and a hot date!

The bride is sure to look stunning and flawless on her day. And, with the endless opportunities for pictures and mingling, you should look your best, too! Keep our 3 tips in mind to get ready for the big night. With these guidelines, you won’t look underdone, overdone or unlike yourself – in fact, you’ll look just right – stunning and flawless.

  • Even It Out - Most women simply do not need heavy foundation. Applying a thick, liquid foundation ages your look. Opt for a light, easy-to-apply product such as Mineral Pressed Powder. This provides just the right amount of coverage and tint. Apply with a large kabuki brush and make sure to tap off any excess powder. Quickly buff all over your face, paying special attention to your cheekbones.
  • Choose One - One of the biggest makeup mistakes that is made is women who think that they need to highlight both their eyes and their mouth with a lot of color. To achieve a balanced look, decide which to highlight and which to downplay. How do you decide? Which of those features get you the most compliments on a regular basis? Do people comment on your bright blue eyes or are they a little jealous because you seem to have acquired an Angelina Jolie type pout naturally? If you choose to focus on your lips, then this is not the night for subtle colors! Reds are great choice for most skin tones - Long Lasting Lipcolor in Shelly is a flattering choice. For those women who aren’t feeling bold enough to carry off a red all night, then a deep pink shade like Janice is a great, fresh alternative. If you decided that the eyes have it, then the smoky eye is a fabulous look and easier to achieve than you might think. Dramatic color, luscious mascara and a great eyeliner like Potted Luxe Creme Eyeliner make the eyes pop. When your eyes are dramatic, make your lipcolor a light, neutral shade with just a subtle amount of gloss to it - Nudo or Carlina Lucious Lip Colors would be great choices!
  • Smile! - However fabulous your make-up look is, you still won’t sparkle in those pictures unless you add a great big smile. After all who doesn't look more beautiful when they are happy and smiling?

Orchid Lips - The On-Point Trend for Spring 2012

by daniella March 29, 2012 10:45

Once winter gives way to spring, make up changes, too - or at least it should. What works in harsh winter is just too much for the days of sunny summer skies. That is especially true when it comes to you lips.

For a spring make-up look to be season-appropriate, you must find a good balance of colors. Although it is often considered very trendy, a candy red lip simply looks too harsh. However, don’t go bare and resort to lip gloss that will leave you feeling less than glamorous. As a beautiful, flattering alternative to red, the in-color for 2012 is the orchid lip.

An orchid lip - one by definition that is a purplelish-pink - adds color without being too striking or overpowering. Our favorite lip look for spring is created using our Fluhme Tiffany long lasting lipcolor, the perfect shade of orchid because it is sedate enough for the office but dramatic enough for a night out after work is done.

Beauty tip: all you need to do to transform a work look to a night look is add a slightly more dramatic eye.

Top 3 Wedding Day Beauty Basics for Every Bride

by daniella March 29, 2012 10:41
When you combine the glow of being in love, with a dose of excitement and a fabulous wedding dress it would be hard to not look stunning on your wedding day. Having said that, there are certain things you can do as a bride to help ensure that you feel like you look your best all day long. This is especially important when it comes to facing the inevitable flash of the camera that will trail you all day. Read below for Flume Wedding and Event Make-Up’s 5 Wedding Day Beauty Tips for the bride:
  1. Less Can Be More - The key to great bridal make up is that the look should be you - just you enhanced a little. That means if you are normally the kind of girl who sticks to a lighter natural look -- that is the look your future husband fell in love with. Choosing your wedding day as the day you switch a neat neutral lip for a bright red just for the sake of “glamor” will make you look like someone else.
  2. Tan Tips - Many wedding dresses expose more than a little skin. We’ve seen many brides disappointed when she realized that tan lines ruined the pictures. Don’t forget your sunscreen—a beauty tips we always believe in. Have a professional give you an airbrush spray tan a few days before the big day. When you hire a wedding day make-up artist, ask if she offers this special service.
  3. Hire a Make Up Artist to Come to You - Rather than adding to the inevitable stress of the day by rushing around town from hair salon to make-up counter and then back home to get dressed and touch-up, a prepared bride should hire a professional make-up artist to come to you. The wedding day make-up artist comes directly to your home or bridal suite. Your bridesmaids will enjoy the reduced stress of not having to do their own make-up, so that they can enjoy their champagne and attend to you.

Mineral Make-up – Is it Really a Better Makeup Choice?

by daniella February 13, 2012 03:39

Mineral make-up has been popular for several years and is a top choice among professionals and make-up lovers alike for it’s luminous, flawless look. Many women have yet to give mineral make-up a try, because they are not sure of the benefits over traditional powder or liquid foundation.

The most popular forms of mineral makeup are is mineral foundation powder. These products offer a number of advantages over liquid foundation and heavy talc-based powders. Advantages include:

  • Kind to Skin - Mineral foundations and powders contain no talc. Talc is a comedogenic substance that clogs pores and tends to over-dry skin. Mineral powders are non-comedogenic and much healthier for the skin.
  • Mineral makeup provides excellent coverage but does not feel or look heavy on the skin. Mineral powders offer a natural, well-blended look. This is the way to avoid the liquid foundation “mask” that makes women look artificial and over made up.
  • Mineral powder lasts longer. In order to get a beautiful, flawless look, you do not need to use a large amount – a little goes a long way.
  • Less messy! Since mineral make-up is applied with a brush, like a Kabuki brush, there is less mess during application.
  • Mineral powder is the dermatologist’s choice for those with sensitive skin or acne-prone skin. A number of the minerals in most mineral make up offer a certain degree of natural sun damage protection and have anti-inflammatory properties as well. Many dermatologists suggest it for their patients who suffer from chronic acne or even eczema.

Make-up Tip: Layer your Mineral Powder over tinted moisturizer for a fuller coverage look. Fluhme offers the popular Mineral Pressed Powder in popular signature colors such as Ivory, Light, Medium and Dark.
